Builder Molinari Eugenio
Born in Lezzeno on August 23, 1935, Eugenio Molinari began his career at the age of 14 by building wooden pleasure boats. In 1956, at the age of 21, he officially registered his boatyard with the Chamber of Commerce (a step not previously mandatory); following the excellent sales results achieved with his models, he turned his focus to manufacturing boats powered first by outboard and later by inboard engines. Building on this rich and productive experience, he expanded his output to create—for the time—an extensive line of mahogany inboard models that competed directly with Riva’s production. These boats were crafted entirely from mahogany using the laminated construction method—a highly advanced technique that involved layering the wood in a triple-planked configuration.
In the early 1970s, he progressively increased the size of his boats while simultaneously enhancing their technical specifications.
Around 1972, in a move perhaps unique among boatbuilders, he invented a hull design that he would go on to patent in 1973. This entirely new hull featured longitudinal grooves that improved both the boat's stability and speed; for the same power output, it delivered a 15% increase in speed alongside a corresponding reduction in fuel consumption. It was also patented in other countries, such as the USA, Sweden, Great Britain, Switzerland, and France.
Alongside his work as a builder of pleasure craft, Eugenio Molinari channeled his creative genius and passion into the creation of racing boats. In the world of sport, Eugenio took pleasure in surpassing himself, achieving absolute dominance both as a pilot and as a builder; he and his pilots won Italian, European, and World titles.
On November 11, 1996, at the age of 61, Eugenio Molinari attempted and set two more world speed records. This brought his tally of personal records to 67—in addition, of course, to those achieved as a builder. In total, he holds 110 world records.
On June 19, 2007, he installed a Ferrari F430 engine—marinized in collaboration with Ferrari—into a brand-new, custom-built boat. At the age of 71, he used this vessel to set his 71st and 72nd world speed records, dedicating them to President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.
